EVALUATION OF THE HERCULES BOOGIE 2002
The boogie committee always aims to improve the boogie. Although we hope that you were satisfied with your jumps and your stay at the boogie, we were not. We want the ´04 boogie to be even better, and you can help us by answering the recurring participation evaluation. It will take approximately 3-4 minutes to fill in and if you do, you might win one of ten free personal registrations to the next Hercules Boogie! Please feel free to comment about anything regarding the boogie. You´ll find it at http://www.herculesboogie.com/02/eng/postboogie/evaluation.htm

Unfortnately, we do only have the e-mail addresses to (almost) all people that pre-registered to the boogie. So if you know someone that registered onsite at the boogie in Lidkoping or someone that did not receive this newsletter, please feel free to forward this mail to them and ask them to fill in the evaluation so we receive as much feedback as possible. Thanks!

Blue skies!

Hercules Boogie 2002 - Newsletter July 29th, 2002

Hi everybody! Only a couple of days to go until we can play with the Hercules again! Most of the boogie committee is already on its way to Lidkoping to build up the camp and make everything ready for your arrival on Friday.

If you need guidance to find your way to Hovby airport outside Lidkoping, please refer to the maps and directions in the Boogie Manual (which have been sent out to everyone that has preregistered and can also be downloaded from our website) or call the Boogie infophone at +46-706-050261).

http://www.herculesboogie.com/02/eng/preregister/

ORGANIZER ORGANISATION We have been looking at the organizer preferences from everybody that filled out the questionnaire and although we can not fullfill everbodys wish we have tried our best and we have ofcourse also looked at each LO´s experience in organizing. From that we have put together a list of the experience groups each organizer will attend. You´ll find it at

http://www.herculesboogie.com/02/eng/org/organisation.htm

Among many other interesting things we have learned from the questionnaire most of you guys have filled out, is that this year 35% of the participants this time have more than 1000 jumps! That gives us good conditions to build the big ways we hope to.

BOOGIE BRIEFING The first briefing for everybody on the boogie is on Saturday August 3 at 8.00 AM. Be there! Make sure you are ready to be divided into organizer groups and ready to jump and we will kick off the first day directly after the briefing.

IF YOU HAVE PREREGISTERED If you have pre-registered and do not find your name on the confirmation page by now, please make sure to bring the receipt of your payment to the boogie.

http://www.herculesboogie.com/02/eng/preregister/preregistered.shtml

BALOON JUMPING Anybody wanna take a break from jumping a huge tailgate like the Hercules going 110-120 knots on jumprun, there probably will be early morning baloon jumping available!

FACILITIES We can now add some more facilities to the ones mentioned in the Boogie manual. Among them are laundry service and Internet access (where you also can plug in your own laptop).

PARTY AND BAR INFO As always on Hercules Boogie, there will be several bands playing during the week, and this year is no exception. Check out Petras page for more info

BOOGIE MANUAL The boogie manual has just been sent out by e-mail to everybody that has preregistered. If you did not receive it, you can get it at http://www.herculesboogie.com/02/eng/preregister/

It is vital that everybody that participate at the boogie reads the Boogie manual.

SOME WORDS FROM GARETH HOLDER
Well, what do you need to do to get ready for the boogie ? As this is my fourth Hercules Boogie, I'm beginning to see the same things appearing each year. First of all, the main thing to say is to be current. Even if you haven't jumped much this year, make an effort to get to your club and make at least 20-30 jumps prior to the boogie of the type that you would like to make at the boogie, RW, VRW etc. The Hercules Boogie is a big aircraft boogie with a lot going on. You want to be able to make the most of your time there. It doesn't make sense to go to Hercules Boogie only to be current and flying well on the last two days. By that time, the groups will have been locked in, and the work of getting people into the correct groups will have been mostly done.

Also, there's a lot of unfamiliar things going on at the boogie, the most obvious being that you will be in the air with 79 other people. It will make for a safer and more enjoyable boogie for everyone if you have extra attention to devote to your tracking, peripheral awareness and canopy control. Going into the boogie current and relaxed will help with this.

Finally, have a good realistic attitude about your own skills and the expectations that you carry into the boogie. We'd all like to come out last on an 80 way and do a back in, but sometimes our confidence outweighs our skill. You do your best dives when you are skydiving at 70-75% of your ability and have something left to give, not maxed out at 100% just to get there and stay level. Listen to your debrief and try to see your performances with a new eye.

Be realistic with your goals, and the organizers will be generous to you in return. We don't want to spend a lot of time arguing with you about how far you should go back in the line up, or how you really should be on a bigger group. We'll do what we can to make the boogie enjoyable and safe for everyone, and you'll get a lot more out of it in return. I'll also be available at night to answer questions like, "what do you want to drink". It is Hercules Boogie after all.

REGISTER AT THE BOOGIE
From our experience from previous boogies, we have a gut feeling of how many people that come to the boogie and register there instead of pre-register. Because we have more people that have pre- registered so far this year (191 slots available as of July 4th), it is likely that the slots for the boogie will run out just before, or in the beginning of the boogie.
As we have a fixed number of slots to make sure that everbody will do enough jumping, we will say no to people who wants to register on site if we come to that situation. So, if you are planning to come, but haven´t pre-registered yet, we recommend you do that before the boogie.

WIN 5 JUMP TICKETS FROM THE C-130
To win, make the best motivation why you are coming to the The Hercules Boogie 2002. Post your entry in our guestbook no later than July 25th.
Don´t forget to write your e-mail address so we can notify the winner. The Boogie committee will be the autocratic judge and to participate you must have pre-registered.

SOME WORDS FROM JARI - OUR WINGSUIT ORGANIZER

Skyflyers out there, are you ready for the Hercules Boogie 2002?! Do you realize that we are going to stay longer time in the air after the exit than what it takes for C-130 to take us up there! Amazing isn't it? Hercules has always been my favorite plane to jump from (and in my dreams; to) not only because of it's looks but also because of it's speed. It will be a diffrent ball game jumping from a high speed Herc than from ordinary Cessna. One of those differencies will be extraordinary long jump run (aren't you glad we are going to use wingsuits:-) and high exit speeds that can make interesting things for the skyflyers when they exit. When you prepare yourself for the Hercules you should practise the following skills:
-Practise gearing up fast, effective and without disturbing other jumpers (you should be fully geared up before you enter the plane but for example the leg wing we have to fasten in the plane).
-Practise diffrent types of exits with groups if possible.
-Practise navigation for long cross county flights.
-Practise 3D air awareness, we will fly with big groups.
-Exercise, big people fall faster.
-Last but not least, practise having the best time of your life!

Faster-Longer- Slower
